[ ✧ ] ✧ don't know what your muse can or should know about muir? struggling to have a basis on which to interact?this list is completely free-for-all, any muse can have heard any number of things on this list! (or have not heard, if ignorance adds something to a thread)there's just one catch... they're rumours, and the gossip vine never promises absolute truth.

[ ✧ ] ✧ if there's no other melusines at muir's height, it's possible they're at least double the age of the melusines we already know? the only fully grown one?
( it's a little rude to speculate peoples ages, isn't it? )[ ✧ ] ✧ being significantly taller than every other melusine, muir is very insecure about their height! letting them know they're looking short is sure to improve their day.
( we can't have any of fontaines beloved melusines feeling uncomfortable or insecure! it's always good to look out for them. )[ ✧ ] ✧ they don't have a residence of their own, instead choosing to sleep out in the fields near the court of fontaine, or crashing on monsieur neuvillette's couch when the weather is less than ideal.
( what does that say of how they must smell... largely like dirt and grass, i imagine! )[ ✧ ] ✧ they're more than capable with numbers, but if you put any letters in front of them... well. suffice to say they're completely lost on literacy.
( no need to go as far as illiteracy, everyone knows melusine vision is different. isn't it possible they're some equivilent of dyslexic? )[ ✧ ] ✧ much like the invisible 'tether' lyney conjured between the traveller and paimon, one exists between muir and monsieur neuvillette.
( they're practically glued to his side, it wouldn't be surprising! )

SUMMARY

a quick summary of muirs lore!polished character stories are still being written, and even when they're all available i do imagine having a quick abridged version of their lore is infinitely more helpful to have on hand than the finished stories themselves.

[ ✧ ] ✧ melusine-human homunculi that exists as a result of experimentation with elynas' bloodcreated by jakob and co. by accident while testing if elynas' blood would even be safe in combination with humans. as there was no immediate reaction, they were abandoned to eventually grow into existence.neither party knows the other exists, as muir came into being many years later.

[ ✧ ] ✧ 75 years prior to the games events, they were sent to serve time in the fortress of meropide for an assisted suicide charge.with a 25 year sentence, their sentence ended ~50 years prior to the games events.during their time in meropide they befriend sigewinne on the basis of "melusine looks human :)" :handshake: "melusine is part human :)"once free, they make a point to visit their sister frequently. (whether they're allowed to or not.)circumstances of their sentence:
- have human friend
- human friend, aged around 75, is sick and old and doesn't want to completely lose their independence to age. begs muir to kill them
- muir agrees, accepting any and all consequences that may come with helping their friend with this.
- kill their friend, get geo vision
- muir immediately tells neuvillette about all of this because they are not trying to get away with murder.

[ ✧ ] ✧ they dont really have much of a job.given how much other melusines like neuvillette, they've made a point to go out of their way to try to be something like an assistant to him. whether it's just to be doing something with their time, or to try and stay connected with the melusine part of them is....... well! who knows?they are not that useful as an assistant beyond fetching things, cleaning, and largely just hanging out for company. be that as it may, it's what they consider their "main" job.when they're not pestering the chief justice, they like to actually make themself useful elsewhere. potentially the most useful thing they do with their time is occasionally detect gas leaks around the fortress, a job they're uniquely suited for with the way rhinophores work.

[ ✧ ] ✧ their friend left everything to muir to inherit as some sort of thanks for killing them and they kinda sustain themself on that.honestly im not too pressed on how they keep themself alive tbh. they typically sleep at any of their sisters homes, if the weather is nice they may camp outside; anything to avoid sleeping at "home".while they do own that house, part of their grieving is that Nothing is allowed to move in there (aside from their bedroom, the one room that they consider their own to decorate). its been 75 years and little has moved since the "crime scene" was cleaned up.........until the flood anyways. twirls hair. Love making muir suffer (things they kept the same being disturbed)

fun little muir bits i like. ✧ if muir wasn't an oc this would be a headcanon page but since muir is my oc i get to decide this is all real and true and there's some things i put a lot of thought into that i want to talk more about but don't have a reason to

[ ✧ ] ✧ "proceed with resolution"this phrase is used a lot in muirs layouts! in bio, carrd, their playlist name, etc. "proceed with resolution" comes from fencing!when i initially started working out the details of what muirs fighting style is like, the phrase really stuck with me because i would like muir to proceed with resolution, and not just in the fencing style way. <3"In contrast, the other, as his feet are already moving, always has one foot in the air, and without doubt his foot will always be placed before the other has lifted his." (link)and also here is a video i like on proceeding with resolution.

[ ✧ ] ✧ muirs sentence length (25 years)i really, really struggled to find any sources on sentences for anything similar to what they're serving time for.the closest i could find was a mention of 14 years, so i took that and tacked on an extra 10 years because i was unsure and if it's too much i can chalk it up to "extra years to account for immortality" and then i added 1 year to make it 25 for ease of math on The Great Obsidian Timeline Document

[ ✧ ] ✧ muir is poodle codedlisten. i know they're a sea slug in a more literal sense and very jellyfish in a design sense. but at heart and in MY heart they are a pretty water fowl hunting dog with some tendencies that are not unlike service dog behaviours.

[ ✧ ] ✧ muir mild abyssal problemsmuir does not know anything about the abyss. to say they have "ties" to it is a strong word. i'm honestly a little handwavy about the exact conditions that brought them into being because at the end of the day there are no real life homunculi and therefore no way to make it perfectly accurate. ✧✧ what does matter is that the way they were accidentally created is essentially just... not trashing scientific materials responsibly. by people who have a history of abyss research.what little abyssal power they have as consequence of their origin is incredibly unstable & weak and they do not ever (intentionally) use it.design wise, i've gone through handful of things to symbolize it. from incorporating abyss creature armour into their body, to random accessories, to "dain hands" syndrome (/j), etc.✧i ended up settling with the simple and subtle blue now purple! (august 2025) vein-ish bits because to them, it might as well just be part of the melusine colouring of their body. they think they just look like that!here are some of the first concepts of muir with those original design choices! and then their current design last <3

[ ✧ ] ✧ on their notable "human friend" not having a name/gender/etc.this is an intentional choice. i feel like adding too much character beyond "muir watched this human grow up, eventually became their caretaker, and then at the end conceded to the request to kill them before they completely lost independence to old age" takes away from the effect a bit. starts to become 'more is less'.they are a part of the past. their belongings in "muir's" house is all that is physically left of them.in the Great Obsidian Vault Muir Timeline tm i do have some major life events for their human friend marked; they were married, their partner died first, muir then moved in to care for them, etc. but aside from that i like it better with less.

[ ✧ ] ✧ muir being nonbinaryas a nonbinary person, i have strong feelings (both positive and negative) about the nonhuman characters being nonbinary trope. i think its cool and fun and i love the idea of gender being a silly human concept that other species just aren't doing but also get and agree with the critique that it kinda sucks when the Only nonbinary characters in a thing are nonhuman.muir being nonbinary is a very fun spin on this to me. being from an all-female nonhuman species, but also just not really identifying with the human woman identity.... being nonbinary Because they are also human, bc if they were solely a melusine they probably wouldnt care <3

Neuvillette

playlist linkthey really really love neuvillette but just the concept of him makes them very sad for reasons they know are extremely irrational.he has done so much for their sisters and for themself, humouring their poor attempts at being his assistant means the world to them! they appreciate him and enjoy his company!on the other hand: as the first "human shaped" being they ever met, there's a part of them that puts him slightly at fault for their own existential crisis of sorts. muir knows this isn't his fault and has no intention of ever letting him know this.i also imagine that neuvillette at minimum has a very close guess of what circumstances brought muir into existence, if he doesn't just fully know. this may or may not complicate things on his end.regardless of the sad feelings, they trust him with their entire life. to the extent that after killing someone, the chief justice is the first person they sought out.
in my heart, i think there was some attempt of comfort before giving them their sentence.--old note from obsidian i liked:they have an overwhelming need to please him, or be of some use to him... to repay him? and because maybe, maybe, if they're around him enough, they might have an easier time staying connected to the melusine part of them. they don't have to acknowledge their human part if they're playing the part of a dutiful melusine to every melusines favourite person ever?

Sigewinne

playlist linksigewinne is muir's sister. regardless of who's really technically older, they definitely see sigewinne as an older sister figure. (as with every melusine)meeting her in the fortress made their stay bearable and there is comfort in knowing there's another being that's similar to them, even if they're not the exact same. both of them being humanlike melusines and having someone to relate to in that manner has helped them overcome a lot of their existential dread and improve their general attitude, even if they still desperately want answers about why they exist. at least their mood has improved!they frequently visit sigewinne, that is their sister! often they take it upon themself to personally deliver any letters neuvillette has for her, just because if they're going to be there then they might as well.muir most likely knew sigewinne before she got her more humanlike appearance, but meeting her in the fortress was the first they knew of the change. (unfortunately it's a little hard to keep up with all of your sisters when there's as many as muir has....)

Wriothesley

playlist linki have played with so so so many ideas of how these two could have met, and right now (while i have not made this "official" to muirs lore) i feel the funniest option is shortly after wrio takes charge of the fortress, still trying to sort out what business is what, approaching muir on arrival to the fortress (for their regular visit to their sister ofc). muir is used to lying to get in without question, "official business", "i can't talk about it, sorry!" and all, but these little excuses do not work on the guy in charge!
(eventually, sigewinne has to intervene.)i've also thought of maybe one day he just joins one of muir & sigewinnes catch-up sessions where they are chatting away in the infirmary, very casually, and muir is losing theirfucking mind internally because they snuck in and is not sure what to make of the situation. are they in trouble? why is he here. hello. um.
(but wrio is not going to deny sigewinne the company of one of her siblings and everything goes just fine)potential meetings aside, i see muir respecting wriothesley a lot and the changes he's made to the fortress in his time (especially the changes that make it easier for them to visit their sister). he is a "respectable young man"i see them as good friends with a decent amount in common. and my favourite thing to imagine is wriothesley, sigewinne, and muir all in his office until midnight playing board games and the like. muir can't read and it's probably funny occasionally, wrio might point to some rules and say "it says right here that" and lie about it. an.d. Okay. You See.(i also really like thinking about them romantically sorry i think theyre soooo cute together. theyre both very dog coded.)---
old funny note from obsidian:as a general rule: they try to not be intimidated by people they're like ten times the age of, but wriothesley is still a little bit intimidating. definitely would not want to be on his bad side, they're not confident they could take him in a fight.

of course, muir is not very business-knowledgable. they do not know it actually most probably would not matter if they befriended navia.when i initially made muir i made them to hold hands with navia btw i was so excited for a new geo character. playlist linkelynas is, for all intents and purposes, muir's father and who muir sees as a parent (but isn't fully sure if they're "allowed", since they aren't fully melusine and have never directly spoken with him like their sisters have.)elynas, of course, loves all of his melusine daughters. having his daughters bring home another one of his children, he views muir just the same as the rest of his children. i imagine he can sense What muir is made of in them as well; elynas most certainly knows what muir is and feels nothing negative towards that. maybe he's happy to technically have a child with that guythey've never communicated with each other, but elynas absolutely would accept muir as his child and love them just as much as the rest of his children.

CHARACTER STORY ONE

Muirs earliest happy memories are of being taught language in merusea village, of learning new skills and cracking silly jokes about crouching through doors the second their linguistic ability allowed them to. Long before they had ever set eyes on the human form, long before they ever had a reason to question their own existence.It's not like they were totally unaware of the differences, anyone with working eyes can see that they are much, much taller than any melusine, not to mention every other blaring difference.Their sisters never lied to them about where they were found, or how many silly accidents happened trying to transport them to Merusea village... But isn't it easy to just chalk it all up to incubating somewhere else? They did take an extra hundred or so years to emerge, maybe they just had more time to grow, or something.In those earliest memories, many delightful stories were shared about the Court of Fontaine, all the kind people there, the fulfilling jobs and purposes they were given. With how highly the place was spoken of and their lack of real life experience, it'd be impossible not to be completely enamoured with the descriptions! Not a soul was surprised when they expressed interest in visiting for themself.The Chief Justice was the first "human" they ever set eyes on. In seeing the similarities, it was only upon meeting him did they ever dare to truly question what they are.

VISION

In Muir's first years after leaving Merusea village, humans made them nervous, as new things tend to do. The constant existental crisis of realizing they are also human certainly did not help.Fortunately, it didn't take too long to make a friend. A human child and an honour to watch grow.Less fortunately, human lifespans are tragically short next to whatever manner of being Muir is. Blink once, and they've moved into their aging friends home to help care for them. Blink twice, and this human is almost completely bedridden with only their memories left to lose.Losing your independence to age might be the most terrifying part of the process, and cutting that short while you're still ahead might become appealing to some..."There is nothing good waiting for you if you do this for me,"... In the same moment they accept the consequences of granting such a boon, there's a little extra strength behind making it quick.
