[ ✧ ] ✧ don't know what your muse can or should know about muir? struggling to have a basis on which to interact?this list is completely free-for-all, any muse can have heard any number of things on this list! (or have not heard, if ignorance adds something to a thread)there's just one catch... they're rumours, and the gossip vine never promises absolute truth.

[ ✧ ] ✧ if there's no other melusines at muir's height, it's possible they're at least double the age of the melusines we already know? the only fully grown one?
( it's a little rude to speculate peoples ages, isn't it? )[ ✧ ] ✧ being significantly taller than every other melusine, muir is very insecure about their height! letting them know they're looking short is sure to improve their day.
( we can't have any of fontaines beloved melusines feeling uncomfortable or insecure! it's always good to look out for them. )[ ✧ ] ✧ they don't have a residence of their own, instead choosing to sleep out in the fields near the court of fontaine, or crashing on monsieur neuvillette's couch when the weather is less than ideal.
( what does that say of how they must smell... largely like dirt and grass, i imagine! )[ ✧ ] ✧ they're more than capable with numbers, but if you put any letters in front of them... well. suffice to say they're completely lost on literacy.
( no need to go as far as illiteracy, everyone knows melusine vision is different. isn't it possible they're some equivilent of dyslexic? )[ ✧ ] ✧ much like the invisible 'tether' lyney conjured between the traveller and paimon, one exists between muir and monsieur neuvillette.
( they're practically glued to his side, it wouldn't be surprising! )

SUMMARY

a quick summary of muirs lore!polished character stories are still being written, and even when they're all available i do imagine having a quick abridged version of their lore is infinitely more helpful to have on hand than the finished stories themselves.

[ ✧ ] ✧ melusine-human homunculi that exists as a result of experimentation with elynas' bloodcreated by rene and co. by accident while testing if elynas' blood would even be safe in combination with humans. as there was no immediate reaction, they were abandoned to eventually grow into existence.neither party knows the other exists, as muir came into being many years later.[ ✧ ] ✧ i do not want muir to know this about themselffor girp purposes: neuvillette & sandrone muses have full permission to know as much as their muns think they could figure out just from looking at them!
just not to say anything to them <3

[ ✧ ] ✧ 75 years prior to the games events, they were sent to serve time in the fortress of meropide for an assisted suicide charge.with a 25 year sentence, their sentence ended ~50 years prior to the games events.during their time in meropide they befriend sigewinne on the basis of "melusine looks human :)" :handshake: "melusine is part human :)"once free, they make a point to visit their sister frequently. (whether they're allowed to or not.)circumstances of their sentence:
- have human friend
- human friend, aged around 75, is sick and old and doesn't want to completely lose their independence to age. begs muir to kill them
- muir agrees, accepting any and all consequences that may come with helping their friend with this.
- kill their friend, get geo vision
- muir immediately tells neuvillette about all of this because they are not trying to get away with murder.

[ ✧ ] ✧ they dont really have much of a job.given how much other melusines like neuvillette, they've made a point to go out of their way to try to be something like an assistant to him. whether it's just to be doing something with their time, or to try and stay connected with the melusine part of them is....... well! who knows?they are not that useful as an assistant beyond fetching things, cleaning, and largely just hanging out for company. be that as it may, it's what they consider their "main" job.when they're not pestering the chief justice, they like to actually make themself useful elsewhere. potentially the most useful thing they do with their time is occasionally detect gas leaks around the fortress, a job they're uniquely suited for with the way rhinophores work.

[ ✧ ] ✧ their friend left everything to muir to inherit as some sort of thanks for killing them and they kinda sustain themself on that.honestly im not too pressed on how they keep themself alive tbh. they typically sleep at any of their sisters homes, if the weather is nice they may camp outside; anything to avoid sleeping at "home".while they do own that house, part of their grieving is that Nothing is allowed to move in there (aside from their bedroom, the one room that they consider their own to decorate). its been 75 years and little has moved since the "crime scene" was cleaned up.........until the flood anyways. twirls hair. Love making muir suffer (things they kept the same being disturbed)

fun little muir bits i like. ✧ if muir wasn't an oc this would be a headcanon page but since muir is my oc i get to decide this is all real and true and there's some things i put a lot of thought into that i want to talk more about but don't have a reason to

[ ✧ ] ✧ "proceed with resolution"this phrase is used a lot in muirs layouts! in bio, carrd, their playlist name, etc. "proceed with resolution" comes from fencing!when i initially started working out the details of what muirs fighting style is like, the phrase really stuck with me because i would like muir to proceed with resolution, and not just in the fencing style way. <3"In contrast, the other, as his feet are already moving, always has one foot in the air, and without doubt his foot will always be placed before the other has lifted his." (link)and also here is a video i like on proceeding with resolution.

[ ✧ ] ✧ muirs sentence length (25 years)i really, really struggled to find any sources on sentences for anything similar to what they're serving time for.the closest i could find was a mention of 14 years, so i took that and tacked on an extra 10 years because i was unsure and if it's too much i can chalk it up to "extra years to account for immortality" and then i added 1 year to make it 25 for ease of math on The Great Obsidian Timeline Document

[ ✧ ] ✧ muir is poodle codedlisten. i know they're a sea slug in a more literal sense and very jellyfish in a design sense. but at heart and in MY heart they are a pretty water fowl hunting dog with some tendencies that are not unlike service dog behaviours.

[ ✧ ] ✧ muir mild abyssal problemsmuir does not know anything about the abyss. to say they have "ties" to it is a strong word. i'm honestly a little handwavy about the exact conditions that brought them into being because at the end of the day there are no real life homunculi and therefore no way to make it perfectly accurate. ✧✧ what does matter is that the way they were accidentally created is essentially just... not trashing scientific materials responsibly. by people who have a history of abyss research.what little abyssal power they have as consequence of their origin is incredibly unstable & weak and they do not ever (intentionally) use it.design wise, i've gone through handful of things to symbolize it. from incorporating abyss creature armour into their body, to random accessories, to "dain hands" syndrome (/j), etc.✧i ended up settling with the simple and subtle blue now purple! (august 2025) vein-ish bits because to them, it might as well just be part of the melusine colouring of their body. they think they just look like that!here are some of the first concepts of muir with those original design choices! and then their current design last <3

[ ✧ ] ✧ on their notable "human friend" not having a name/gender/etc.this is an intentional choice. i feel like adding too much character beyond "muir watched this human grow up, eventually became their caretaker, and then at the end conceded to the request to kill them before they completely lost independence to old age" takes away from the effect a bit. starts to become 'more is less'.they are a part of the past. their belongings in "muir's" house is all that is physically left of them.in the Great Obsidian Vault Muir Timeline tm i do have some major life events for their human friend marked; they were married, their partner died first, muir then moved in to care for them, etc. but aside from that i like it better with less.

[ ✧ ] ✧ muir being nonbinaryas a nonbinary person, i have strong feelings (both positive and negative) about the nonhuman characters being nonbinary trope. i think its cool and fun and i love the idea of gender being a silly human concept that other species just aren't doing but also get and agree with the critique that it kinda sucks when the Only nonbinary characters in a thing are nonhuman.muir being nonbinary is a very fun spin on this to me. being from an all-female nonhuman species, but also just not really identifying with the human woman identity.... being nonbinary Because they are also human, bc if they were solely a melusine they probably wouldnt care <3

Neuvillette

playlist linkthey really really love neuvillette but just the concept of him makes them very sad for reasons they know are extremely irrational.he has done so much for their sisters and for themself, humouring their poor attempts at being his assistant means the world to them! they appreciate him and enjoy his company!on the other hand: as the first "human shaped" being they ever met, there's a part of them that puts him slightly at fault for their own existential crisis of sorts. muir knows this isn't his fault and has no intention of ever letting him know this.i also imagine that neuvillette at minimum has a very close guess of what circumstances brought muir into existence, if he doesn't just fully know. this may or may not complicate things on his end.regardless of the sad feelings, they trust him with their entire life. to the extent that after killing someone, the chief justice is the first person they sought out.
in my heart, i think there was some attempt of comfort before giving them their sentence.--old note from obsidian i liked:they have an overwhelming need to please him, or be of some use to him... to repay him? and because maybe, maybe, if they're around him enough, they might have an easier time staying connected to the melusine part of them. they don't have to acknowledge their human part if they're playing the part of a dutiful melusine to every melusines favourite person ever?

Sigewinne

playlist linksigewinne is muir's sister. regardless of who's really technically older, they definitely see sigewinne as an older sister figure. (as with every melusine)meeting her in the fortress made their stay bearable and there is comfort in knowing there's another being that's similar to them, even if they're not the exact same. both of them being humanlike melusines and having someone to relate to in that manner has helped them overcome a lot of their existential dread and improve their general attitude, even if they still desperately want answers about why they exist. at least their mood has improved!they frequently visit sigewinne, that is their sister! often they take it upon themself to personally deliver any letters neuvillette has for her, just because if they're going to be there then they might as well.muir most likely knew sigewinne before she got her more humanlike appearance, but meeting her in the fortress was the first they knew of the change. (unfortunately it's a little hard to keep up with all of your sisters when there's as many as muir has....)

Wriothesley

playlist linki have played with so so so many ideas of how these two could have met, and right now (while i have not made this "official" to muirs lore) i feel the funniest option is shortly after wrio takes charge of the fortress, still trying to sort out what business is what, approaching muir on arrival to the fortress (for their regular visit to their sister ofc). muir is used to lying to get in without question, "official business", "i can't talk about it, sorry!" and all, but these little excuses do not work on the guy in charge!
(eventually, sigewinne has to intervene.)i've also thought of maybe one day he just joins one of muir & sigewinnes catch-up sessions where they are chatting away in the infirmary, very casually, and muir is losing their mind internally because they snuck in and is not sure what to make of the situation. are they in trouble? why is he here. hello. um.
(but wrio is not going to deny sigewinne the company of one of her siblings and everything goes just fine)potential meetings aside, i see muir respecting wriothesley a lot and the changes he's made to the fortress in his time (especially the changes that make it easier for them to visit their sister). he is a "respectable young man"i see them as good friends with a decent amount in common. and my favourite thing to imagine is wriothesley, sigewinne, and muir all in his office until midnight playing board games and the like. muir struggles a bit with reading and it's probably funny occasionally, wrio might point to some rules and say "it says right here that" and lie about it. an.d. Okay. You See.very importantly, wriothesley isn't in the public eye in the way muir is used to hanging out around. they're extra comfortable around him because its one of few friendships they have where they don't have to worry about the usual stuff.(i also really like thinking about them romantically sorry i think theyre soooo cute together. theyre both very dog coded.)

Furina

also still workshopping...i go back and forth a bit on whether muir was made aware of the full picture or not. either way they respect furina A Lotif they don't know: they admire that furina stepped up to fill a roll that the actual hydro archon should have been doing. it doesn't matter that she isn't technically the archon if the actual archon presumably abandoned fontaine.if they know: jesus christ my lady good job

Navia

playlist linkboth raised by a community with love and also they are both full of so much love for the world and ...... you see the vision. they also both love helping people. yay.i feel that muir admires navia A LOT but doesnt want to cause problems for her from a business perspective if they were to befriend her. it might look awfully bad on navia if anyone thought she was sucking up to neuvillettes assistant for any reason!
of course, muir is not very business-knowledgable. they do not know it actually most probably would not matter if they befriended navia.when i initially made muir i made them to hold hands with navia btw i was so excited for a new geo character. While that has changed there are still remnants in the way muir just is ;___;

Elynas

playlist linkelynas is, for all intents and purposes, muir's father and who muir sees as a parent (but isn't fully sure if they're "allowed", since they aren't fully melusine and have never directly spoken with him like their sisters have.)elynas, of course, loves all of his melusine daughters. having his daughters bring home another one of his children, he views muir just the same as the rest of his children. i imagine he can sense What muir is made of in them as well; elynas most certainly knows what muir is and feels nothing negative towards that. maybe he's happy to technically have a child with that guythey've never communicated with each other, but elynas absolutely would accept muir as his child and love them just as much as the rest of his children.

Lyney & Lynette

the lyney playlist is a complete mess bc its mostly stuff i find fun to listen to while drawing him. and theres no lynette playlist yet. ill link them when they Both have something with any substancethey have a lot in common! and i think they have a lot of potential to become good friends, but getting the ball rolling on that is difficult on muirs end (all ends, really).importantly, muir is very careful about doing anything that could draw attention. fontainians are terrible about othering people and muir sticks out enough as it is; getting too close to celebrities feels like asking for trouble.all that aside, muir tries to keep all their free time as fun as possible (partially to make up for how boring neuvs office is /j). watching magic tricks is completely up their alley. they don't let themself think too hard unless they have to, making them a very very easy audience to impress.on not thinking too hard, if they were to somehow get close: muir does not care about whole truths when it comes to anything humans do. if someone wants them to believe something, they'll take it at face value.
for a lot of reasons, but in the twins case the main one would be the lifespan difference; holding grudges for anything is wasting precious time together.
i think this would make their friendships run pretty smoothly regarding any fatui stuff that muir cant know about. sure, they might be curious, but not enough to get their nose cut off by poking it where it doesn't belong.i'm very very interested in how they all have family at the very top of their values and have similar situations of being different in small but significant ways from their siblings.(thoughts about them individually tba, the above is just the stuff that applies to both of them for now)

The Knave

muirs familiarity with arle starts and ends with watching neuvi and furina interact with her. they're introduced, but when working muir knows so much better than to ever add their two cents to anything that happens in neuvs office.the closest thing they might get to a proper conversation during muirs working hours is a tea party like situation with arle, muir, and furina. and importantly Without neuvi. even then they mind their words and keep an eye on furinas reactions to be sure they arent fucking this up.i've had silly thoughts of them running into each other in an out-of-work environment and arle being a little surprised that muir is actually pretty chatty!furina being pretty intimidated by her probably rubs off on muir a little bit, definitely would make any first meetings outside of work a little awkward before muir realizes furina was probably worried about nothing.much like the above note with the twins, if they were to be close for any reason muir would still not really care about whole truths here. both for the same lifespan reason and because they know no amount of trusting them is going to make them not be associated with neuv. poking their nose around too hard makes it look like neuv wants someone to report back, and they wouldn't want to sour arles opinion of him!speaking of the twins. i don't think muir has entirely connected the dots that all these people are super relevant to each other. they have all the information they'd need to be able to but they're associated with such wildly different things that until muir sees them all in one spot its So easy to forget ohhhh right the knave isn't just someone that needs to talk to his honour sometimes

FUCK. the arcane and the mathematical.... ohhh mygodddI HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGSright now they are strangers but i want so bad for them to have some sort of friendship based on sandrone recognizing them as something that Came From Rene (one way or another) abd idk like the line about doing certain things in alains stead... if alain couldnt fix his relationship with rene... she could be friends with muir........in my head i imagine that sandrone doesn't tell muir about their origins, despite Figuring It Out (even if its only from seeing a resemblance) because theres more risks than worth it in that kind of closure. what does another person need to know about the nzkz ordo for? how does sandrone know that muir wont become like rene, knowing theyre family? etc. Also like sandrone just does not care about the nzkz ordo as far as i understand it in event quest, no reason for her to care about closure for renes stuff on top of alains.my sillies prone to not allowing their irrational emotions to have any space even though that would probably help them. god. they could have a nice tea party with surface level conversations

Clorinde

idgaf if traveller is spelled traveller or traveler i have an instinct to put twoaether playlist / no lumine playlist yet so we pretend its both until then (want to make them separately)muir inherently trusts the traveller after all their help with the events in the archon quest. on top of that, they're friends with all muirs friends!i imagine muir may have had some concerns before / early in knowing them about the dragon defeating stories. possibly a little worried for neuvi!(the following is NOT canon to muirs lore yet im still workshopping exactly how much impact they have in the aq)for the events of the archon quest, i think it's fun to imagine muir continuing their regular visits to sigewinne and the traveller thinking muir is there to check on things for neuvillette. this, of course, leads to telling muir about how things are going and muir later repeating it all to sigewinne as something mildly interesting. not even to be a snitch on purpose, just 'haha the traveller was talking to me on the way over here. you guys seem to be having fun with those tartaglia-finding plans!'
nothing about the results of the aq change but it adds a little flavour to wrio already knowing everything in advance if he has an additional pair of eyes/ears that has a reason to be told everything plainly.

Chiori

i haven't thought a whole ton about their relationship yet, but muir has to get all of their clothes (pants specifically) altered so they have room for their tail. with the reputation chioris business has, where else would they go?they are at the very least familiar with each other because muir is a regular customer.

Within Palais Mermonia, the number of procedures and policies for even the most miniscule of tasks could easily be described more as performance than necessity. When every system is working as intended, there should never be so much as a speck of dust out of place.<br /><br />Unwritten rules are few and far between; every base is covered on paper.<br /><br />Busy as the gestionnaires are, if someone were to offer help they would surely be turned away at the door. With every strict rule in place, it's hardly the place for unqualified volunteers.<br /><br />There are few within the Court of Fontaine that would describe melusines as any less than a good-natured, attentive, and high principled species with absolute loyalty to the Chief Justice. His mutual adoration for the species is just as undisputed.<br /><br />With a relationship like that, denying a melusine wanting to do something nice for their beloved Iudex on any basis is just silly.<br /><br />Even miss Sedene has long since grown accustomed to ignoring that a certain sibling of hers doesn't have a position on paper when they invite themself into Monsieur Neuvillette's office every morning.<br /><br />Such is the only unwritten law within Palais Mermonia: "Muir is going to bend a couple rules. Not getting in their way is an acceptable way out of tedious work. Everyone already knows they mean well."
